Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) has launched a special international influencer familiarization tour from 6th July to 17th July 2026, bringing together some of the most recognized digital content creators from Australia and Indonesia to experience and showcase the beauty, culture, and hospitality of Sri Lanka.
The initiative aims to introduce Sri Lanka’s diverse tourism experiences to millions of global audiences through the creative storytelling of influential digital personalities. The visiting influencers will travel across key destinations including Negombo, Dambulla, Pasikudah, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Ella, Yala, Galle, and Colombo, capturing the island’s beaches, wildlife, heritage, landscapes, cuisine, and local experiences.
Among the international creators participating in this tour is Ondreaz Lopez, one of the most followed digital creators in the group, with 3.1 million followers on Instagram and 19.8 million followers on TikTok. His extensive global audience provides an exceptional opportunity to present Sri Lanka to millions of travel and lifestyle enthusiasts around the world.

IDL Showcases Sri Lankan Mixology, Local Ingredients and a New Generation of Bartenders at NBC 2026

Sri Lanka’s most promising bartending professionals were recognized at the 31st National Bartenders Competition (NBC) 2026 Grand Finale, held on 26 June 2026 at Cinnamon Grand Colombo. The event celebrated technical skill, creativity, speed, presentation, and innovation across Sri Lanka’s growing hospitality and tourism sector.
The competition was organized by the Sri Lanka Hospitality Graduates Association (SLHGA) in partnership with the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management (SLITHM), with International Distillers Limited (IDL) partnering the event for the fourth consecutive year.
NBC 2026 followed a comprehensive islandwide journey, beginning with training and briefing sessions across the Cultural Triangle and East Coast, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, Deep Down South, Down South, Negombo, and Colombo. Contestants then competed through regional rounds, an exclusive Master Class, and the National Semi-Finals before reaching the Grand Finale.
The competition attracted strong participation from hotels, resorts, restaurants, bars, and hospitality institutions across the island. This year also recorded one of the highest levels of female participation in the competition’s history, reflecting the growing diversity of Sri Lanka’s bartending profession.
Ms. Indu Selvaratnam, spokesperson for the event, said, “A live cocktail competition brings out the true strength of a bartender. The Black Box round, in particular, tests instinct, flavour understanding, confidence, and adaptability under pressure. This year’s contestants showed remarkable talent, and it was encouraging to see the hospitality community come together to support them.”
The Classic Category Champion was W.S. Chathussanka from Waters Edge, while K.A.S. Sheshan from Jazzeble Colombo won the Flair Category. The IDL Challenge Trophy for the Black Box Category was awarded to P.K. Muthukumarana from Hilton Yala.
Ms. Hansini Dilrukshi from Cinnamon Wild won the Indhu Selvaratnam and Dr. Gitanjali Chakravarthy Challenge Trophy for Most Promising Female Bartender of the Year, while Sunny D. Perera from Kai Ahangama was named Most Popular Digital Bartender of the Year.

The premiere brought together members of the media, industry professionals, creative collaborators and invited guests, who were given an exclusive first look at the music video ahead of its worldwide release. The event marked an important milestone in PHAZU's musical journey and the introduction of his unique artistic vision to the Sri Lankan music landscape.
More than a debut release, G G Jeevithe represents the beginning of a broader creative journey
aimed at bringing a fresh Sri Lankan perspective to reggae music. Written and composed by
"PHAZU", the project reflects his commitment to reggae as his chosen musical path and artistic
identity. Drawing inspiration from the genre's rich heritage while incorporating local influences,
culture and lived experiences, PHAZU has developed a sound that is both internationally accessible and deeply rooted in Sri Lankan identity. As an artist, he remains committed to reggae as the foundation of his musical journey, while continuing to explore new ways of expressing Sri Lankan and world stories through the genre.
Built entirely through live recordings, the project embraces authentic musicianship, realinstrumentation and high-quality production. The result is a vibrant and organic musical experience that remains true to the spirit of reggae while offering listeners something refreshingly different. At its core, G G Jeevithe explores themes surrounding modern life, societal expectations and the illusions that often shape human behaviour. Through reflective lyrics, infectious rhythms and uplifting energy, the song encourages listeners to pause, reflect and reconnect with what truly matters while remaining firmly grounded in reggae's unmistakable groove.
The project showcases an impressive international collaboration, bringing together musicians and creatives from Jamaica, Italy, Argentina, Spain, Venezula and Sri Lanka. The track was mastered by renowned Jamaican engineer Donny, while live instrumentation features Italian drummer FEDE, vibing lead guitars by Alex Duarte from Venezuela, Argentine bassist Gaston Lescano, Spanish brass musician Willy, and Sri Lankan guitarist Lashel Perera of Avatar.
Lescano's involvement adds further significance to the project, having previously shared stages with internationally acclaimed reggae acts including The Wailers, Alpha Blondy and Israel Vibration, bringing a wealth of experience and authenticity to the production.
The music was composed by Juna Geekiyanage, while the accompanying music video was directed by filmmaker Hasindu D Silva, whose visual storytelling brings the song's energy to life through a compelling cinematic experience.

ITC Ratnadipa Presents “Changes & Traditions” by Kala Soori Awardee S. H. Sarath

ITC Ratnadipa, Colombo, presents Changes & Traditions, a body of work by Kala Soori Awardee and contemporary Sri Lankan artist S. H. Sarath. Open to public from 26 June to 12 July 2026 at the hotel's WelcomGallery, Kathanayake Lounge, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., the exhibition is curated to take viewers through five decades of artistic exploration, reflecting on the enduring rhythms of Sri Lankan life through ever-evolving perspectives.
Framed as a contemplative journey through perception and memory, the exhibition positions Sarath’s practice as a sustained inquiry into how a nation sees itself over time. Rather than treating art as a record of change alone, ‘Changes & Traditions’ proposes a layered reading of Sri Lanka as both subject and idea, where cultural foundations endure even as visual, social, and emotional interpretations continue to shift. The exhibition invites viewers to experience this tension between permanence and transformation, where love, struggle, spirituality, and everyday life are rendered through a visual language that evolves while staying rooted in its context.

Born in Weligama, S. H. Sarath’s early artistic sensibilities were shaped by the cultural life of his surroundings, from vibrant Sunday markets to the nearby Kushtarajagala rock relief that he encountered on his way to school. He studied at the Government College of Fine Arts, Colombo from 1968 to 1973, specialising in painting and sculpture. Over the decades, Sarath has held numerous solo and group exhibitions in Sri Lanka and abroad, including at the Lionel Wendt Art Centre and international platforms such as London, Paris, New Delhi, Havana, Seoul, Tokyo, Geneva, New York, and Australia, as well as participation in major international biennales. In 1979, he was awarded a UNESCO Fellowship to study at Silpakorn University in Bangkok, followed by further studies in Visual Arts and Printmaking at the University of South Australia. His works are held in major public and institutional collections including the National Gallery of Sri Lanka, UNICEF, Bandaranaike International Airport, and the United Nations in Geneva and New York.
The exhibition brings together a significant body of work spanning more than five decades, moving across line drawings, colour line drawings, and oil paintings. Across these mediums, Sarath constructs a distinctive visual vocabulary that blends spontaneity with structure, and observation with introspection. His works are marked by a delicate interplay of satire, symbolism, humour, and a quietly incisive commentary on social behaviour. In this sense, the exhibition reads not only as an overview of the artist’s practice, but as a reflection on Sri Lanka itself, its remembered past, its lived present, and how change and tradition exist side by side.
“I have always been interested in the world around me, the people, stories, and traditions that shape our lives,” says Sarath. “As time passes, our experiences change the way we see them, and that journey between tradition and change is what continues to inspire my work.”

The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) successfully participated in the 6th Let’s Travel International Tourism Forum (ITF) 2026, held from 10–14 June at the VDNH Exhibition Complex in Moscow, the largest outdoor exhibition venue in the city. Hon. Deputy Minister of Tourism Prof. Ruwan Ranasinghe, SLTPB Deputy Managing Director Mr. Chamila Jayarathna, and Assistant Director Marketing Ms. Sasika Jayaweera represented Sri Lanka, joined by H.E. Ambassador Ms. Shobini Gunasekera and First Secretary Commercial Mr. Sanjeewa Bandara. The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Sri Lanka and the Roscongress Foundation extended strong support to ensure the delegation’s successful participation.
Recognized as one of Russia’s premier tourism events, ITF 2026 attracted over 511,000 visitors, 180 country and regional stands, and 574 organizations. Sri Lanka was honoured with the Let’s Travel First-Degree Laureate Award among 12 international participants, a recognition that underscores the country’s rising profile in the global tourism arena.
The Forum provided a vital platform to deepen tourism and economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and Russia. Prof. Ranasinghe met Hon. Deputy Minister of Economic Development Mr. Dmitry Vakhrukov and senior officials from St. Petersburg and Sverdlovsk Region, initiating discussions on destination promotion, familiarization tours, regional outreach, and enhanced air connectivity. These engagements laid the groundwork for stronger collaboration and highlighted Sri Lanka’s readiness to expand its presence in the Russian market.
The Deputy Minister also contributed to two high-level panel discussions on “Direct flights, simplified visas and what this means for the industry” and “Tourism of national importance: The strategic potential of international cooperation.” His interventions emphasized Sri Lanka’s commitment to facilitating travel and building long-term partnerships.

A graduate of the Royal College of Music in London, she has performed internationally as a concert pianist and accompanist, and has played a pivotal role in elevating Sri Lanka's presence in the international choral music arena. Her contributions to music and culture have been recognised through numerous honours, including the SAARC Woman of Achievement Award, the Zonta Award and the Bunka Award. She also serves as a jury member at international choral competitions and is widely recognised as one of the judges of Sri Lanka's Got Talent.

Ten years after opening its doors on Sri Lanka’s southern coastline, Shangri-La Hambantota reflects on a journey shaped not only by hospitality, but by people, place, and purpose.
Set across 145 acres along the island’s untamed southern coast, Shangri-La Hambantota this year marks its 10th anniversary celebrating a decade of stories woven through nature, culture, community, and heartfelt connection.

The offer applies across all classes of travel, fare brands and destinations on both airlines. With the limited time offer, 2,000 Skywards Miles can unlock savings of USD 30 instead of USD 15.
Bonus Tier Miles: Skywards members also receive additional tier benefits for travel up until 31 August 2026. Members earn 20% bonus Tier Miles on every Emirates or flydubai flight, helping them move through the tiers faster. With reduced Tier Miles required during this period, it’s now even easier for members to renew or upgrade their membership status.

Sun Siyam Pasikudah Launches the Only Floating Ocean Dining Platform on the Waters of Pasikudah Bay

The east coast's first solar-powered platform dining experience brings the flavours of Sri Lanka's eastern coastline to the open water
Sun Siyam Pasikudah, part of the Privé Collection under Maldivian-owned Sun Siyam Resorts, has officially launched its floating dining platform on the open waters of Pasikudah Bay, the Aqua Lounge. It is the only floating ocean dining platform on the bay, the only solar-powered floating dining platform on Sri Lanka's east coast, and the only floating fine-dining experience on the open Indian Ocean in eastern Sri Lanka — a meaningful distinction from the lake and river venues that exist elsewhere on the island. There is nothing else like it on this coastline.
The platform spans 400 square feet and is reached by catamaran directly from the resort's shore. It is built from sustainable timber and recyclable barrels, and runs entirely on solar energy. Both choices reflect the resort's wider commitments under Sun Siyam Cares, the group's Travelife Gold-certified sustainability programme covering renewable energy, ocean conservation, waste management, and community engagement across all Sun Siyam properties.
What makes the platform stand out is not just where it sits but the thinking behind it. The structure uses sustainable timber and recyclable barrels, runs on solar energy, and reclaimed greywater principles guide the resort's wider operations on land. The floating platform is a natural extension of that philosophy, applied, quite literally, to the ocean the resort is working to protect.
The dining experience centres on a seven-course menu drawing on the freshness and flavours of the eastern coast. Evenings begin with sunset cocktails as the light shifts over the bay, and the platform stays open through the night for guests who want to linger over a meal with the sound of the water beneath them. For those who want something quieter, a champagne breakfast on the platform is available on request, a more private way to begin the day out on the water.
Beyond the guest experience, the platform carries a genuine community purpose that the team considers just as important. School children from nearby villages are brought out to the platform regularly as part of the resort's CSR programme, not as a sightseeing trip, but as a hands-on conversation about the bay they have grown up beside, the coral reef beneath it, and what it means to look after both. It is one of the ways Sun Siyam Pasikudah extends its values beyond its own grounds.
